Yamdroktso Lake (4,441m), also known as Yamdrok Yumtso or Yamzho Yumco, is located at the Nangartse County of Shannan Region. It is one of three largest holy lake in Tibet (the other two are Namtso Lake and Lake Manasarovar). The lake is regarded as a talisman and is said to be part of the life-spirit of Tibet. In Chinese Mandarin, Yamdroktso has a vivid name, Coral Lake, for its irregular shape. Many short streams of this lake winding into the nearby mountain and it looks much like the coral.
There is a monastery built on a peninsula in the lake, named Samding Monastery. This is the only Tibetan monastery to be leaded by female reincarnation. Samding Monastery is the place where Samding Dorje Phagmo, the most famous female incarnate Lama in Tibet, stayed and presided. Every year, believers in Tibet or other regions would come here for pilgrimage. People believe this lake will bless and protect them.
Yamdrok Lake is also the largest habitat for migratory birds in southern Tibet. Also, it is a famous place for fish-farming as it has a fish capacity of over 800 million kilograms.

1. The best time for taking pictures is before and after sunrise or sunset.
2. The nearest hotel is in Nagarze County.
3. The weather is changeable, bring warm clothes with you.
