Purog Kangri Glacier

Highlight tourist attraction in Nagchu Prefecture

Purog Kangri Glacier is the third largest glacier in the world covering 422 square kilometers (the other two are South Pole and North Pole). It locates 560 kilometers from Nagchu Town in Tibet. In 2009, scientists from the US and China firstly discovered the glacier. They also found some deserts and lakes around the glacier. Since then, both domestic and international experts have paid a lot of attention to it. And it has become a hot research spot.

However, the glacier is melting day by day because of global warming. So if you want to visit it, remember to get a permit from local police station in advance and hire an experienced guide.
