There are so many people that want to travel to Tibet to see the beauty that can be found there, but there are certain rules and regulations that everyone must follow first. 1. Passport and Chinese Visa (MUST)
Everyone will need a valid passport and Chinese Visa for a Tibet travel permit. The passport will need to be valid for at least six months past the beginning of the trip or it will not be accepted. If the passport is going to expire soon, travelers will need to request a new passport. A Chinese Visa can be obtained in the country that a person lives in and it is easy to apply for. The one thing that everyone must remember is that not to mention Tibet while apply Chinese visa, since it is sensitive and China embassy may require extra paperwork.
2. Tibet Travel Permit (MUST)
A Tibet travel permit will allow anyone who wants to go to Tibet to board a train or airplane that is going there. We can obtain Tibet Travel Permits for you after a tour is booked with confirmed itienrary and duration. Only local travel agencies can apply Tibet Travel Permit for you. Any other applications will be denied.
3. Alien’s Travel Permit (DEPENDING ON YOUR ITINERARY)
Certain areas of Tibet are off limits unless a person has the proper alien’s travel permit. We can only apply Alien’s Travel Permit after your arrival in Tibet with your original passport which takes but an hour or two. It is necessary for people who want to go to restricted areas. The areas in Tibet that require an alien’s travel permit include the Mt. Everest Base Camp in Shigatse as well as other places in that region, Tsedang, Gyangtse, Ngari, Nyingchi, and Chamdo. The process of obtaining Alien’s Travel Permits takes but an hour or two. Your Tibetan guide will take care of it.
4. Military Permit (DEPENDING ON YOUR ITINERARY)
One needs military permit if you plan to travel to Ngari (western Tibet), including Mt. Kailash, Lake Manasrovar, and Guge Kingdom… The application of military permit usually required to be submit at least 1 month prior tour starts.
As long as everyone has the documents listed above for their time in Tibet, they will not have any problems. Not everyone will need all these documents, but at least they will know about them for the future.
