Potala Palace-Residence for Dalai Lamas
Potala Palace is the first attraction you should visit for your Tibet tour. It is the residence for Dalai Lamas from the 5th Dalai Lama. There are over 1000 rooms, 10,000 shrines and 200,000 statues in the palace. Thus, you have the precious opportunity to see mysterious Buddhist statues, frescos and other religious stuff during the visit. However, you have only one hour for the visit, so please arrange your time according to the time limit.
Jokhang Temple-The Most Sacred Temple in Tibet
Jokhang Temple is the most sacred temple in Tibet. Pilgrims from all parts of Tibet come every year to finish their holy worship in the temple. The King Songtsen Gampo built it in 642 for marrying Princess Wencheng and Princess Bhrituti. Both the Chinese and Nepalese Princesses brought Buddha statues as dowries. Therefore, Jokhang Temple is built to place these important statues. You can see the famous Statue of Sakyamuni at the age of 12 in the main hall.
Barkhor Street-A Window of Tibetan Life
Around Jokhang Temple is Barkhor Street. On the street, there are devout pilgrims doing the kora and prostrating themselves. You can follow them to finish the kora. Also, there are many vendors selling traditional Tibetan handicrafts. Thus, it is a good idea to wander the street and buy some souvenirs.
